Life is an ongoing drama for the players and crew at Katharsis Theatre in New York City.

Especially since the James Mason, owner of the theatre, was found DEAD on the stage last week. Despite the disturbing news--and all that has floated to the surface since, the cast, crew, relatives, and associates have attempted to continue their normal routines.

That is until the opening night of "Macbeth", when one of the witches goes missing, a mysterious locked box appears, and an letter questions the motives and alibis of basically everyone.

The players of New York's biggest little theatre company need YOUR help to find the murderer!

How it works:

Katharsis GATHERings are the easiest party you didn't host.

That's right--you don't have to host. YOU get to play. Or--you get to relax while the kids / spouse / relative / friend plays.

We do all the work. Here's a quick overview:

1. BOOK.

Book a party using our handy booking tool. Parties can be pretty much any day or time, but we DO ask you to book 7 days in advance so we can get things ready on our end. Private parties are $125 for up to 8 participants and $10 per guest after that.

Don't know how many you'll have? That's totally okay! Book your party for 8 and you can add people until the day before.

NOTE: THIS party does require a minimum of 6 participants for the game to work.

Have a smaller group? Consider one of our other GATHERings.

2. INVITE.

Within 1-2 business days, you will receive a custom digital invitation for your event along with a link to your personal party page. This is where your party goers will go to RSVP and choose their characters!  Have someone who is kinda shy and won't want to play a character? That's okay--they can still participate as jurors, which means they won't have any concerns about lines or costuming. They still get to vote on who dunnit and enjoy the party! So invite them too! Once they've RSVPed, we will send each of them an email with their character (if they chose one) and some TOP SECRET information to help them play the game (as well as the game play instructions and the ZOOM link if it's hosted online or the Studio location if it's in person).

3. PARTY.

That's right--there is no prep work--I mean, you CAN get dressed up in costume if you want, but you don't have to! When the party begins, our artists will facilitate the whole thing from start to finish.

Wondering what to expect? Here's a quick overview of how the game works.

Mystery parties are played in 3 separate rounds. Each round begins with the revelation of a clue, followed by a character testimony, and then a time for questioning the suspects (or solving a puzzle). The round finishes with the chance to accuse one of your friends. There are 3 rounds. At the end of the 3rd round, everyone votes for who they think did it and then the criminal is revealed! The event finishes with some time to socialize or sing Happy Birthday and this is a time when other relatives, etc can "ZOOM" in to say hello if they like. Of course, after that, everyone signs off and there is NO CLEAN UP for you!!

That's REALLY it. SO EASY RIGHT?

Oh, and for funzies, we will even compile the best moments into a highlights video as a keepsake if you like!

You don't have to decide right away--we will have them available for purchase after the party if you decide you want one.

Other Ways to Play:

Want to play but don't have 6 friends to invite?

Want to host a fundraiser for a nonprofit?

Yep. You can do that too.

Join an open party:

That's simple--head over to our "Find a Party" page and you can peruse through all the open parties. Tickets are $15 per person. Enjoy!

Oh yeah--and these parties always support a nonprofit, so your night mingling with new and old friends is ALSO supporting an awesome cause!

Host a Fundraiser (this is also how you host an OPEN party):

1. DECIDE.

A. Decide if your fundraiser will be open to the public (more chance for raising funds)

or closed (this is a great option if you want minors to play).

B. Decide what nonprofit you want to support. You don't have to be on the board or work there or be related to the organization. We will reach out to them and let them know you've picked them and handle the rest. All of our open parties support nonprofits. Why? We just like doing it. If you don't know which nonprofit to pick, you can also select our Katharsis Scholarship Program. These provide scholarships to arts classes and events for individuals who may not be able to participate otherwise!

2. BOOK

Use our handy booking tool to schedule your event. Parties can be pretty much any day or time, but we DO ask you to book 7 days in advance so we can get things ready on our end. We have found that fundraisers are best when organized with plenty of time to get the word out, so keep that in mind when you book. There is NO COST to book a fundraiser event. Tickets are $15 per person and the nonprofit receives $2-$5 per ticket purchased.

NOTE: THIS party does require a minimum of 6 participants for the game to work, so if there are not at least 6 participants 12 hours prior to your party, the party will be canceled. We have yet to see this happen, but wanted to tell you!

2. INVITE.

Within 1-2 business days, you will receive a custom digital invitation for the event along with a link to your fundraiser's party page. If you opted for an open party, we will ALSO include a link to this page on the "Find a Party" page for people looking for parties. This is where your party goers will go to get tickets and choose their characters!  Have someone who is kinda shy and won't want to play a character? That's okay--they can still participate as jurors, which means they won't have any concerns about lines or costuming. They still get to vote on who dunnit and enjoy the party! So invite them too! Once they've registered, we will send each of them an email with their character (if they chose one) and some TOP SECRET information to help them play the game (as well as the game play instructions and the ZOOM link if it's hosted online or the Studio location if it's in person).  The party page can ALSO include a link to donate directly to the nonprofit if you like.

3. PARTY.

That's right--there is no prep work--I mean, you CAN get dressed up in costume if you want, but you don't have to! When the party begins, our artists will facilitate the whole thing from start to finish.

4. DONATE.

Well... we actually do this part. About a week after your party, you will receive a report of the number of tickets sold and the amount the nonprofit will receive. We will contact the nonprofit to find out where to send the check and let them know the donation funds were raised by you!

That's it!

So, you got your party on, supported a working artists,  AND supported a great cause all at the same time???

Pretty cool, right?

Yep--it's just one more way Katharsis Media is fulfilling its mission to support artists and our community.
