Scholarships

Broadway Bucks

Our Broadway Bucks program is a work study program that allows students to earn credit towards classes at Katharsis AND in the community.  Bucks are earned at a rate of $8 per hour for Katharsis Programs and $4 per hour for community programs.

Students over the age of 14 with a valid worker's permit are eligible to apply. Adults (parent or otherwise) may also serve hours on behalf of the student.

One of the biggest barriers to accessing training in the performing arts is the cost. It is our mission at Katharsis Media to remove those barriers to the best of our ability. To this end, we have developed several programs to help families and individuals who wish to pursue training in the performing arts.
Talent Showcase

Every June, students of all ages come together to compete for scholarship awards up to $1000. These scholarships can be used towards Katharsis programs, community programs, or towards higher education (regardless of intended major). Scholarship awards for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place are given to each of the following categories: elementary, junior high, high school, and young adult (ages 18-24). There is a $25 fee per act to participate. Groups acts may also compete for a donation to a community arts group of their choice.

New York Takeover

This Fall, we plan to take a small group of young adults to New York City to explore the sights, watch the shows--and live like a Musical Theatre Professional. This 10 day trip will be jam packed with master classes, campus tours, and networking opportunities leading up to three days of actual auditions. Although this trip is not free, a limited number of students can use Broadway Bucks to pay for it. This trip is for Young Adults, ages 18-29.

Broadway Bound LIVE

This semester long program provides exceptional training in acting, singing, and dancing for 12 students each year. This program is open to low income young adults ages 17-28. Students compete through 8 rounds of elimination throughout the semester, acquiring points. The student with the highest points at the end of the semester will be awarded a renewable Director's Scholarship to the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City.
